Mindfulness, the act of being more present, is a reoccurring theme throughout my body of work. In our fast-paced world, it can be easy to be swept up into a web of technology. The intention of my artwork is to redirect our awareness, and reconnect us with the natural world. All of life on Earth is connected by water, which is a common subject matter for my paintings. In my studio, I find myself fully emersed in the depth of color, light, and shapes found on an ever-changing body of water. My art process is a mixture of both drawing and painting. While in art school, studying at the University of North Texas, I found myself being strongly influenced by artists such as Chuck Close and Kehinde Wiley. I admire the technical aspects these artists use to paint in a naturalistic and contemporary style. I learned how to work from photographs, and practice a photorealistic attention to detail in my own work.
