My body of work is strongly influenced by the natural world. Water is a common theme throughout my paintings. I have always been drawn to the ocean, and frequently use my work to call attention to it’s care. Oil painting allows me to explore the shapes and colors reflected in an ever-changing body of water. Other themes that show up in my work include: the exploration of humanity, diversity, astrology and the practice of living a mindful life. In art school, I was exposed to artist’s works like Chuck Close and Kehinde Wiley. I was strongly influenced by their ability to paint highly naturalistic imagery in a more contemporary way. After art school, I became an art educator, this continued my journey learning about how art can awaken complex issues and get important conversations going. Now, I am creating art full time, living in downtown Raleigh, and continuing to practice living a mindful life.
